Tis’ the season of monsters, goblins, ghosts and witches. For some children this can be a scary time, which is why I like these two stories:
GO AWAY BIG GREEN MONSTER by Ed Emberley and LEONARDO THE TERRIBLE MONSTER by Mo Willems.
Go Away Green Monster gives children the feeling of some control over the monster. What if we could all tell our fears to just “GO AWAY’? It is worth a try!
Leonardo is a funny story of a monster who tries to be scary but just can’t seem to get it right. In the end he chooses kindness. Oh – so some monsters might be nice?

I like to use this felt set I cut out for the children to play with. During non Covid times it is a great listening skill exercise. The children go around in a circle taking turns following directions of what piece to take away or to put back. They love it.
