This week we went on a safari to Africa.
On the projector:
How do you not love this book? Beautifully illustrated with lots of emotion and fun.
We tried some dancing too: we tried waltzing, rock and rolling, the tango, the cha cha cha, “a splendid Scottish reel”, and of course just some fun dancing.
This part of the story really gets their attention, they know it is not nice. They have empathy for Gerald:
We gave Gerald lots of applause!
If you know me, you know I am a big fan of the growth mindset. And why not start early and introduce it to our preschoolers? This is a wonderful book to use for it – “the power of YET” -or the things we can’t do yet. (We never have to say “I can’t” again, we say “I can’t yet!”).
During my after school classes, we talked some more about the things we can’t do yet. Each child got a necklace to remind them. We also made some giraffes and tried some more dances. We had such a good time trying to tango!
To get the cutout of the necklace and to learn more about about the growth mindset go here:
A growth mindset means that you thrive on challenge, and don’t see failure as a way to describe yourself but as a springboard for growth and developing your abilities. Your intelligence and talents are all susceptible to growth. -WGU
Another Berto and Beatrix approved book!
