This classic fable is meant to show children the importance of work and helping others.

Before the story, each child received a character puppet to hold. They had to listen and hold up their character when they heard it in the story (a great exercise to practice listening). They had a lot of fun saying “NOT I”!
I found some wheat to show the children:
On the projector, a wonderful kitchen. Can you smell the cake baking?
During the after school classes, we colored and cut out the characters from the book (link to puppets above).
We then did some chores…
…so we could eat cake! And we ate “every last crumb”!
