It was FARM WEEK at our school!
This was a wonderful opportunity to make sure the children know their farm animals, and the sounds of each one. Who does not like to make farm animal noises?
Our vocabulary word from this story was SNOUT. I am not sure why, but I love this word.
Lots of farm animals on the projector:
It is one thing for a child to learn about farm animals in a book, but imagine when we talk about the animals and then they get to see them! Being able to see and touch an animal really helps a child learn. Never mind how fun and cute the animals are.
A couple of teachers set this up for their classes. They “milked” the cows and then made ice cream! I think maybe next year we need to do this for the whole school. So cute.
My afternoon classes had some fun with Old MacDonald’s farm and animals. I hid animals behind their doors and they had to guess what was behind them.

Here is an example of planning and then failing as a teacher. I left my pink balloons and shaving cream home for my Thursday class. BUT, I ended up making do with what I had and it all worked out. Instead of shaving cream and paint for the pigs, we made one big dirty mess with real mud. The children loved the mud as much as they loved the shaving cream and paint. Both worked well.
The children had to get all of the “pigs” back into the “pig pen”. (I ended up using white balloons on Thursday). They could only use paper plates to move them and could not pick them up. Yes, their were a lot of giggles.
Beatrix and Berto really loved this week and the book:
