Earth Day was on Monday, but we know everyday should really be Earth Day, right? We celebrated our Earth all week long. How perfect that our chicks hatched this week too!
This is our 7th year hatching chickens. It is truly such a wonder, and never gets old. The children have been so engaged -but then again – how could you not be? Look how cute they are?
And this all happens on this beautiful planet….
At this point in the story, I showed the children some smooth rocks that I had found. I also showed them a rough rock so that they could compare it.
Our vocabulary word was continent. Not always an easy word to say.
I also stopped at this point in the book to remind the children of our reptile visit. They actually got to touch an iguana just last week.
We love our Earth. What can we do to take better care of it? Even with the youngest children we can start talking about taking care of our planet. Picking up garbage, recycling, turning lights off, planting tree and flowers.
On the projector:
Each student received an Earth Day “medal” and promised to take care of our Earth.
The after school classes had a lot of fun building a volcano, which of course “exploded”!:
We also went outside to appreciate our planet. We hugged trees and made nature bracelets.
Beatrix and Berto say please help take care of our Earth everyday!
