A classic fairy tale, originally written by Hans Christian Andersen. I love the illustrations in this book. It is also simple and easy for the children to follow.
After the story we looked at a real pea. How did the princess feel this under twenty mattresses?
Each child then got to see if they were a REAL princess or prince. Could they feel the pea?
Guess what? We had all princesses and princes. They all could feel the “pea”!

On the projector, a magical castle:
For my after school classes, we had a pea tasting. A frozen pea, a fresh pea, a sugar snap pea, and Pea Crisps. The results were all over, but at least most of them tried all of them!
You know how much I believe in the importance of retelling a story. I made this little kit for each after school child to take home and play with. They colored the bed and then stacked the mattresses on top of a pea.
