A few months ago, I asked my director if she would consider “flying” the children at our school to Paris, because I had this cute book about Paris that I wanted to read. (When she she taught, she would usually take a “trip” somewhere with her children). She said yes! In my mind I had a few chairs in the hallway. Well, she took it to the next level! How much fun is this? She made passports and boarding passes for every child. She recruited another French speaking teacher, Miss Beth, and our popular Cody who handles our after school activities. The children had to check in, and each had a seat assignment. As they were taking off, they watched a safety video. On the way to Paris, our flight attendants taught the children some French. They then watched their Air France flight land. Once on the ground, each child was given a camera and were shown some historical monuments and places in Paris. Can you think of a more fun way to learn? And don’t forget, the summer Olympics are in Paris this year.
This book shows the children some of the many wonderful places in Paris. It also includes Monsieur LeMousie who is on every page. The children loved looking for him.
On the Projector, the sites of Paris:
Our vocabulary word:
Maker space made Eiffel Towers from cookies. Music sang French songs!
There was also a little Bistro for our students to try some food(everything was delicious!):
Every child also took home a souvenir from Paris. It was such a fun week.
I read this book to my after school classes. One of my personal favorites.
Of course we had to smell and taste a baguette after reading the above book. The children always go nuts over the baguette.
I also made some crepes and filled them with chocolate for the children to try. Most did not know what a crepe was. Yes, they liked them.
I printed this Eiffel Tower out on card stock. They had to cut it out, but then figure out how to get it to stand up. It was a great problem solving exercise for them. They loved it.
Messieurs Beatrix and Berto approved of the book and the week!
