In a world of globalization, it is important that our children learn about other cultures. This week we celebrated Italy. The food, the historical sites, and the language. How fun!

In the library, we read Pasta Pasta Lotsa Pasta. We looked at all the pastas from the book. Do you know them all? Do you like them all?
Lasagna:

Spaghettini:

Rotini and gnocci:

Bucatini, tortellini and capellini:

Oh no! No more pasta!

Our vocabulary word was basta. It means stop. We listened to how pasta and basta rhyme. We also listened to the sound of “p” vs the sound of “b”.

In the end…they had to eat pizza instead of pasta…we decided that would be ok! 🙂

We looked at the leaning Tower of Pisa on the projector:

All of the students were given passports (with photos inside) and boarding passes. Then they boarded their flight to Italy. (Sorry, I “missed” the flight so don’t have great photos). They learned a few Italian words before they deplaned.

Look at all the wonderful places they visited:

Food is a lovely way to learn about another culture. The children tasted some delicious treats from a local Italian bakery. (Yes, they were soooo good)

How lucky are we to have a student who speaks Italian? Cora and her father gave us lessons everyday.
My after school classes did a pasta taste test:

Of course we had to try a little gelato too.

They certainly had their opinions. Hahahah.

I kept with the pasta theme and also read this book. Always a favorite.

We made some spaghetti and meatballs.

Even the teachers celebrated Italian week! We had an Italian wine tasting and dinner

Chef Library, Beatrix and Berto all say “CIAO”!

And now…I am going to book a real trip to Italy….!!!
