Bonjour!
For French week, what better book than the classic Madeline? A Caldecott Honor Book from 1940!
The rhymes are wonderful. The older children were thrilled to point them out to me.

Notre Dame and The Luxembourg Gardens:

I will give you once guess why the children rolled around laughing after I read this page. How our language has changed – I tried to read it the way it was once used…but…

I probably should have chosen appendix for our vocabulary word. I did have to give a brief explanation.

The ambulance taking Madeline to the hospital is going right near the Eiffel Tower:

We also had to talk about what a scar is.

Reading this book is like traveling to Paris. Look at all the places we got to see.

On the projector, monuments of Paris:

The teachers started the week off with a delicious French lunch. (Don’t worry, the champagne was non-alcoholic!). Pourquoi pas? It was a great way to start the week.

During the week, the children all boarded “our plane” and headed to Paris:

The crew was very professional:

The passengers received a French snack on the plane.

Our tourists had such fun touring Paris and taking photos.

Snacks and treats during the week:

We were lucky to have a special guest come in and give the students some French lessons:

In music they sang French songs, in maker space they made these:

During my after school classes we read these books:

We then sat down for a French party. The children all tried a some of the baguette and some brie cheese. Not ONE child liked Miss Library’s favorite brie cheese. I guess it was just too stinky for them -all the more for me! Hahahah.

We donned our berets (which I painstakingly made – ha):

These went home with them. I feel certain they liked these.

We then read this book:

Each child received a coloring book with French monuments in them.

We had fun matching the pictures in the coloring book to the actual monuments:
