This week, we read another classic Hans Christian Andersen story.
This book is a simplified version of the story. Older children can grasp some of the lessons from this book. These include not judging others by how they look. Also about self-acceptance and just treating others nicely, no matter what we look like or do.
For the younger children, we are just introducing the story. I also like to make sure they see the difference between a duck and a swan. They honestly just loved all of the different animal illustrations in this book.

The page above was a great time to stop and talk about our eggs in the incubator. Hopefully they will hatch in a few weeks.

The children thought it was funny that the “Ugly Duckling” honks instead of quacks.

Our vocabulary word:

Can you see the “ugly duckling” growing?

“True beauty lies within”

Berto wanted to be a duck for this story:

On the projector, we looked for the “ugly duckling”:

During my after schools classes we read another version of The Ugly Duckling:

We also looked at this book – cute.

We made these swans, and then played with them.

We also read another story written by Hans Christian Andersen:

We found out if we were princesses (or princes) – could we feel the pea?

And we colored these coloring pages from each story.
