Happy Earth Day/Week/Year! Because really Earth Day should be everyday right?
I want to give a big shoutout to Eleanor who brought this book to my attention. The beautiful illustrations of our Earth, combined with the sweet emotions of compassion and love make this an ideal book for Earth Day. Especially during a time where we all need to be not only kinder to our earth but to the people around us.

Our vocabulary word was beneath. This is a perfect word for our preschoolers, many of whom are still learning “directional concepts”.

Look at this beautiful page.

We took time to think of what was under the boat (freshwater fish). We also identified the animals.

After the page above, we had to stop and talk about our eggs at school! We were so lucky, one of our chicks decided to hatch during school hours so we could watch. A true Earth Day miracle! We have been hatching eggs for almost 10 years at our school, and it still leaves me in such awe.

Ok, back to the story.

A few summers ago I found this snake skeleton. How cool is this? (You know the kids love it)

“Beneath what’s different is what’s the same”

It did not take long for the children to see the broken hearts.

Let’s all try to remember what is beneath the stars!

On the projector. We LOVE our Earth!

Each student received one of these. They promised to take care of the Earth and each other.

Next door, in maker space, the children made a collaborative art project of our Earth.

We also have had a wonderful time getting to know our three new chicks. (Sadly the other 4 eggs were not viable).

During my after school classes, we had some chick time (above). We also planted flowers in honor of Earth Day. We need soil, water and sun from our plants to grow.

If all goes well, they will make the children look like they have flowers growing out of their heads! Silly fun.

We also did an Earth Day scavenger hunt. And hugged a tree or two.

Happy Earth Day/Week/Year!
