October is Community Helper Month!
We are so lucky to have officers on duty at our school! This past week, they brought their police vehicles for us to explore and showed us their uniforms. We want to take a moment to thank our police officers for keeping us safe and for taking the time to visit. It’s also important for our children to know that police officers are helpers — someone they can always go to if they are lost or in danger.

We can find a police officer by their uniform, which was also our vocabulary word.

I pulled a photo of an officer riding a bicycle for the children to see.

I asked our school officer what message he wanted the children to hear above all else. He told me that he wanted to make sure the children knew that police officers are safe and can always help them.

Exploring the police vehicle is always a highlight of our police week.

Police officers also teach us about safety, and remind us to wear our helmets.

The children loved this little “quiz” at the end of the book. It also gave us a way to talk about other community helpers.

Officer Lockhart gave us a “tour” of his uniform.

He also directs traffic for us, which is SO helpful!

We wanted to make sure our police officers felt appreciated, so each student received one of these to wear.

My after school classes colored this worksheet and then put on their own “uniforms”.

We then went on a safety patrol of our school.

We also took along some tickets in case we needed to give some out -for breaking the law or for just being awesome!

During our safety check, Ms. Susan tracked us down and told us about a robbery! All of her candy in her candy bowl had been stolen! We were on it! We followed the clues. Hmmm… what kind of prints are these? Candy and candy wrappers?

Bad Bubba Bear was at it again!

We returned the candy, arrested Bubba and put him in jail!
