We continued to celebrate our community helpers this month by reading this book and learning about fire safety.

Fireman Small saved the cat! We all put up our hands and shouted “hooray” too!

This book has wonderful rhymes and repeats, so the children can say it with me. (They don’t need to know rhyming and repeating builds their literacy skills!).

Our vocabulary word.

I left Berto’s police hat on, so I could remind the children that our community helpers all work together.

We talked about fire hydrants, I asked each child to try to find the one nearest to their home.

Goodnight Fireman small, Station Number 9, and Fire Truck. We hope you get some sleep!

I asked the children if they knew where their closest fire stations was located, and what number it might be? Here is the fire station closest to the school. Fire Station Number 4!

After we read the story, we practiced fire safety. What number do we call? Each child received a “phone” to practice.

If we ever catch on fire, we STOP, DROP AND ROLL!

And we stay low to ground if there is smoke and fire in a room.

Our local fire station, Fire Station Number 4, came to visit us. They showed us their equipment. They also raised their ladder as high as it could go and then a firefighter climbed up it!

On the projector:

My after school classes had fun matching up the emergency workers with their vehicles. Every year the firefighters bring hats to give out, this year they brought pink hats too. You know that was popular.

We then went on a fire safety scavenger hunt around the school. Yes, our school is safe!

Our fighters were “sleeping at the station” when the alarm went off.

Luckily, they did a great job of putting the fire out!
