This is one of my favorite stories to read to the children. It is simple, so they can easily act it out (and they love that!). They can also explore their feelings and emotions about the troll. He is not nice, and can be kind of scary to some children. I like to turn him into a “cry baby bully” in the end so that the children are not so afraid of him. I think it is important to give the power to the children to explore playing with each of these characters. I also like to have them think about the sizes of the goats and how they might sound (I use a wood tone block) when they go across the bridge (will the great big billy goat be louder than his brothers?). So simple and such a great way to expand learning, language, imagination and emotion.
Did you vote for your “favorite” troll?
Maybe this one? Print and color:
If you want a wood tone block this one is very inexpensive:

Consider turning this story into a science/engineering activity by letting your children explore with how to build a bridge.
Here are some that the children built in our maker space:
For the little ones, this might be the easiest (if you don’t have blocks):
I usually leave this out for the children to play with for weeks after I have read the story. Someone is always playing with it and there is nothing better than listening to their little voices acting the story out. I wish I could find this online for you to order (I will keep looking):
This is cute too:

And finally – how can you not love a baby goat?
