Retold by Ronne Randall, Illustrated by Gavin Scott
Now that we are back in the library, so many of the children have asked me what (or who) this is…

I quickly realized that I needed to read Jack and the Beanstalk again!

We always have fun stomping our feet and yelling “Fee-fi-fo-fum” like the Giant:

The Giant looks down on us when we read…

After the story each child took home a “magic bean”. Some children are terrified of the idea of a beanstalk growing in their yard, so I like to tell them that they get to choose what they will find when the climb to the top. Maybe they find kittens and puppies to play with? Or a bulldozer to drive? Some just want to meet the Giant!

On the projector, I have a quiet country road playing. Will Jack come down this road with his cow on his way to the market? Or with the magic beans from the old man?

For my after school class, we followed the giant footsteps and found a golden egg! It was a little “scary” but very exciting!

For the older children we did a little STEM activity. What if Jack parachuted from the beanstalk? We made parachutes and then took them outside to see if they worked.
