Since October is the “spooky” month, I decided this might be a great book to read together.
This little girl is convinced there are all sorts of scary things in her backyard. I don’t know about you, but it doesn’t take much for my mind to wander down that same spooky path! Our children have such vivid imaginations, and sometimes we need to help them sort out what’s real and what’s not. Especially in October, when even the decorations can look a little frightening. Halloween is meant to be fun — and it’s okay to be a little scared sometimes! But it’s also important to remind our children (and maybe ourselves) that our brains can make things seem a lot scarier than they really are.

Our vocabulary word:

…and in the end it was just a pair of skunks!??

At the end of the story, we talked about some common things we see during the month of October. Are they real or not? Will we be afraid?

On the projector – spooky?

My after school classes went on a “spooky or not spooky” hunt. There were ten items to find. There were mostly in darkish places, so we took a flashlight and some monster spray-to make us feel a little better.

Spooky? Not spooky? Maybe a little of both?

We thought this was just a little too spooky, so way gave it some spray.

Spooky?

We made some monsters of our own. Scary or not scary?

We also read this cute story:

Find the story here:
We brought out this monster to try some karate moves on, which is always fun.

Will my students need to use the monster spray on their own monsters?

Berto says “BOO”!
