I KNOW AN OLD LADY WHO SWALLOWED A PIE by Alison Jackson, Illustrated by Judith Byron Schachner

This is a silly and fun book for Thanksgiving. Another cumulative rhyming story, that repeats itself. This makes it easier for the children to remember it for retelling and is wonderful for language development.

I like to point out the following illustration. The “Old Lady” is making her pie, but look at her cat. Ummm – yuck. The cat and the mouse are fun to find throughout the book.

This book also introduces some of the foods that we eat for Thanksgiving. Except for the pot, which of course they love.

In the end, she turns into a Thanksgiving Parade balloon:

We watched a little of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade on the projector so they could see the balloons:

The children had a lot of fun “stuffing the old lady’s mouth”, retelling the story.

My after school class made turkeys – clearly with lots of glue! Hahah!

Berto and Beatrix wish you a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
