We are celebrating community helpers this month. This week we are thanking our firefighters.
Our local firefighters came to our school to show us their truck and all of their equipment.

You must be pretty brave to be a firefighter.

Our vocabulary word. (We talked about some of the skills we are working on.)

The firefighters showed us their special fire outfits and their gas masks – just like the photo above!

We talked about how the firefighters take turns living at the station, and might have to get up in the middle of the night.
Loud sirens let us know to pull over so emergency vehicles can get through quickly.

Forest fires have been in the news so much lately, so we talked a little about them.

Interesting fact, a few years ago the fire department had to rescue the TK class from the elevator here at school!

After the story, we practiced dialing 911!

Print phones off here – enough for a few friends too:

We also practiced STOP, DROP AND ROLL.

We watched firetrucks on the projector:

To leave the library (which was on fire), we calmly stayed low to the ground under the smoke to get out. We told the teacher to call 911!

We made sure to thank our community helpers properly with a large card and gift cards for them.

Firefighter Berto says thank you to all of our firefighters!
