Creativity Courage Collaboration
We celebrated International Dot Day! Dot day is a day that encourages creativity, courage, and collaboration by inspiring people of all ages to “make their mark,” beginning with just a small dot, and to share their creativity with the world. But really shouldn’t every day be Dot Day?
We started the story by noticing the look and mood of Vashti. Is she mad? Sad?
“Just make a mark and see where it takes you”
Our vocabulary word:
“Now sign it”…

We took a minute to look at all of the colored dots in the story and matched them up with the ones on my dress.
Vashti discovered that if she mixed blue with yellow you can make green. We mixed a little blue and yellow paint to see.
I think every child should make some art and have their own personal art show at home!
In the end Vashti goes from being mad/sad to happy making art, and then encourages another to do it. What a lovely message for our kids.
The little boy made a squiggle, and we wondered if he will have an art show of squiggles?

We had dots all over the school this week:
In my after school classes, each child took home their own paint bag of yellow and blue to make green. There is something so satisfying with kneading these bags and changing the color. (As long as the bag is not opened!)
Some of the dots “escaped” from the book so we had to go on a dot hunt!

We then had a lot of fun using dots (of course!) to create anything we wanted!
