Another Aesop fable! (If you are not familiar with Aesop, please see link at the end of the blog).
This is a nice story to talk to preschoolers about the difference between the country and the city.
I also liked this story because I could ask questions, and have the children really look and think.
Is this the city or the country? How do we know?

What is Toby wearing? What is Pippin wearing? How are they different?

What does Toby think of Pippin’s food?

Where are the mice? How do you know? For the younger children, they are thrilled to be able to name the colors.

Look out the window now. Are the mice in the city or country? How do you know?

It is a very busy street, Toby does not seem bothered at all.

It really is a splendid vocabulary word isn’t it?

Oh no!

Home sweet home for Pippin the country mouse.

Are you a town(city) mouse or a country mouse? I think I am both!

On the projector – scenes from the Cotswolds.
If I don’t return to school next week, it is because I have moved into a cozy little cottage there and have decided to write “the great American novel”. Hahah – so dreamy!

We used these to retell the story:

Print them here:
Berto says he is very much a country mouse/bookworm! He would prefer to be somewhere quiet to just read! The simple life for him.
